This is a reading service led by artist Pimerico, which operates irregularly. It is mainly held in Yugawara, but is also available online and on business trips.
We named it Waves Tipee in the hope that people will come and enjoy it as if they were relaxing and chatting in a Native American teepee tent.
The idea was that, although there are many artist talks being held, it would be nice if there were more opportunities for artists to be heard. This idea, coupled with Pimeriko’s own various new interests and explorations, led to the creation of this scheme.
In August 2024, I set up Waves Tipee to offer readings and tailor-made art workshops, drawing on my sensitivity as an artist and my data-loving nature.
Symbol of the service, Amaryllis (coloured pencil, by Pimeriko, 2024).
The squirrel expresses the attitude of listening and looking carefully.
The pink amaryllis’s language of flowers is ‘talkative’.
About Pimeriko
Contemporary artist, mother of two children.
Born 1975. After graduating from university, worked as a system engineer in a IT company, then went to the UK to study contemporary art. Currently lives in Kanagawa Prefecture.
In her artistic activities, she has presented video, three-dimensional and performance works in Japan and abroad that anthropomorphise animals and plants and reconstruct myths and classical literature from the artist’s point of view.
Her work is characterised by an ancient animistic perspective that juxtaposes natural phenomena, flora and fauna with human beings, and the connection between femininity and creativity can also be seen in her work.
In parallel with the artist’s personal activities, she has set up the artist-run space Waves Project, where she organises and manages exhibitions and events.
Recently, she has also been involved in activities such as workshops in collaboration with researchers from other fields, to convey ideas and ways of looking at things that do not fit within the framework of art.
At home, I overcome various obstacles with my children, such as disabilities and not attending school, while learning and discovering many things that help me to grow as a mother.
In new landscapes that I could not reach on my own, I am exposed to prejudice and imbalance, encouraged by the warmth of people, and live a lively life in a place rich in nature.

Encounter with tarot cards
After creating a piece about the weird sisters (three supernatural beings) in Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, the mythological and literary designs of tarot cards appeared on social media caught my attention and I became interested in them because of their affinity with my own work. Once I acquired tarot cards, I couldn’t stay away and studied under a professional fortune teller, learning card reading and numerology and gaining experience in reading with a training period.
Reading the minds and relationships of modern people through the mythological or medieval scenes depicted on the tarot cards gave me the fresh feeling of being connected to the past, the present and even the future, as if I could go back and forth in time.
In readings that combine several cards, various symbols, colours, numbers, figures and scenes line up and speak to each other. The coincidental arrangements are a collage of landscapes that transcend logic and are even dreamlike.
The views that the Tarot projects reveal a multifaceted, human reality and at the same time offer hints from perspectives that cannot be reached by everyday thinking.
They also serve as a mirror of the deeper psychology of ourselves, others and the group, allowing us to look at a situation from a bird’s eye view and to see the thoughts and feelings of others.
Tarot cards are said to have originated in Europe in the Middle Ages (13th-15th century), although there are many theories. Numerology has its origins in the B.C. mathematicians Pythagoras and Kabbalah. Both are based on the Kabbalah worldview, and the more I learn, the more I am fascinated by the deepening interest in both and their usefulness as tools.
Currently, pimeriko is working on her original tarot cards.
